DescriptionI kind of quit getting so damn excited about comic movies. Most of them are DVD fare at best, but the press I'm hearing about Dark Knight has gotten my jaded sensibilities somewhat excited. I've got to wait until August 9th till it comes to Japan, but I'm older and a bit more patient so I guess I'll manage. Anyway, I have the Japanese flier to tide me over until then. (Who gets one of these for Christmas?)[I saw a sneak preview in a half-full theater of politely quiet moviegoers this past weekend. I am not sure it met the hype, but at the same time I found myself surprised at just how far the film went in showing the consequences of being a dark-night detective. A few less explosions and a few more dramatic confrontations would have been nice, but it was well worth paying ¥1500 (US$14 plus change) for a (discounted) ticket.] Social/Sharing |

Hey, these are cool, this one in particular! So I have to ask: Are the movies in English and subtitled in Japanese? Or are they dubbed?

I answered Hiroshi's question a long time ago by email, but for anyone interested, most big movies are shown both dubbed and subtitled, so Japanese moviegoers get to choose. When I go by myself (or with the wife), I usually see the subtitled movies (unless it is a Japanese made movie – although, weirdly, once I saw the re-imported English-dubbed version of Princess Mononoke here in a theater and it was subtitled!), but when I take my daughter, we go to the dubbed versions – an exception being, for obvious reasons, the Hannah Montana concert movie.
