DescriptionFor an idea of how I commission Ernie Chan for a drawing, here's what I wrote to him for the Fate/Batman picture (which came out better than I could have imagined):Ernie – I’d like to commission you for a color 2-character piece featuring Batman and Dr. Fate. If this piece had a name it would be “Dr. Fate Grants Batman His Wings.” The back-story would be that Fate needs Batman to fight a battle in a mystical realm of winged creatures, so Fate gives Batman bat-wings. Facing the viewer, a capeless Batman (but he still has his hood/face mask) is arising from a kneeling/bended-knee position as majestic bat-wings unfurl from his back. Also facing the viewer, Dr. Fate is standing behind Batman. Fate’s hands are casting the spell that has grown the wings. Batman’s expression is grim, as the transformation was painful, and his fists are clenched, but he’s also pleased with a sense of new power, and, perhaps, with having a deep wish fulfilled – the ability to fly like the creature he named himself after. For the background, maybe you could indicate that the two heroes are on a landscape in another dimension/a mystical realm – a red sky, a castle tower, maybe strange winged shadows in the sky. I’d like the costumes of both heroes to reflect how they looked in the Silver Age/early Bronze Age – as if this team-up took place during the original Batman team-ups in Brave & Bold comics – I’ve attached references for Dr. Fate’s costume, and Batman should be in the grey and blue/black outfit – the black areas like his mask, gloves, trunks and boots should have blue highlights. Please let me know your availability and total cost and I’ll send out a check. Best regards, Arthur Social/Sharing |
