Description

Okay -- DC has recently purchased the rights to do both the Milestone and the Red Circle/Archie superheroes and added them to the DC Universe. That's in addition to the characters from such defunct comics companies as Quality, Charlton, and Fawcett, whom DC also purchased and added to the DCU. Last year we saw the revival of dozens of public domain superheroes at Dynamite Entertainment under the auspices of Alex Ross and Jim Krueger. So you see, bringing back the heroes of defunct companies is the big thing nowadays. So why hasn't anyone brought back the heroes of Continuty Comics?

When superstar artist Neal Adams decided he wanted to start up his own comics company in the mid 1980s, Continuity was the result. In a way it was sort of a precursor of Image Comics, in that the comics were long on style and short on substance. They looked great, but to this day I can't tell you what one single story from one single title was all about. That was back in the day when I was willing to buy a comic that was a confusing mess, just as long as it looked like Neal Adams drew it.

Anyway, as sort of a homage to Continuity, I decided to have this triptych commission done. And who better to do it, other than former Continuity penciler Sal Velluto! Sal's work is very well represented here at the galleria de Damon. He is an outstanding talent and I can't lavish enough praise on the excellent work he does both for commissioned art collectors and comics in general. He can be reached at his website at velluto.com.

The heroes featured here are (from l. to r.): Samuree, Valeria the She-Bat, Armor, Megalith, Knighthawk, and Ms. Mystic. Until one of the BIg Two wises up and brings them back, they'll always have a home here.

What could be more perfect than a set of Continuity commissions with actual continuity between them? Knockout stuff by the great Velluto!

Had these books been half as good as the promotional posters, we might be talking about how Disney bought Continuity. This tryptic is inspired. The larger theme of your dead universes theme is clearly killer artwork.
