Description
I've wanted an Arthur Adams page for quite a while, and have lost out on eBay (to people here on CAF!) on a number of pages. But when I saw this for sale, I knew I had to have it. From Adams' first series, a terrific page from a terrific book. I love the people, the backgrounds, the vehicles, everything! Portacio probably didn't know what he was getting into when he agreed to ink this...look at all the leaves, blades of grass, strands of hair, and that shoulder belt of knives Longshot used to throw! Pages from this series look much better to me in glorious black and white than they ever did in color; I'd love to see an Essential type collection of the Longshot series specifically, but the majority of Adams' early work would probably be able to be appreciated even more were it all seen in B&W. Anyway, big thanks to Dan Gallo (here on CAF) for letting me slowly get this page (check out his Comic Art Con, a comic book artwork only convention in the NYC area)! Oh, and if you look closely at the bottom, below the actual art, you'll discover what Adams does while working!

Those bottom three panels with Longshot are fantastic and the amount of detail in that top panel is just plain sick!!!!! This is the series that turned me on to Arthur and I've been a fan ever since! Congrats on a great page buddy!

Nice pickup Ken!! This series is classic and made ART a household name! (I can't see below the art - what are you talking about...??!)

It is hard to see, because it's in pencil only, but on the bottom, below the middle panel, just under the whiteout, Adams has written "More pizza", with an arrow pointing each way, towards small stains that he circled in pencil, and then slightly off to the right he also put, in parenthesis, "Ugh." Due to the fact that it says MORE pizza, I'm guessing there are some pages from earlier in the series that may have similar personal touches from the 'hand' of Mr. Adams. Any other Longshot page owners notice this?

The Adams/Portacio combo was an incredible team. I don't understand why Longshot was their lone work togheter. It's a pity, but of course it makes pages like this the greatest of tresures, wonderful page.
