Poika Vesanto, Kuninkalan Eenokki 1933 1

A Vesanto masterpiece, one of the most beautifully drawn comic pages he ever did. On the one hand, it's incredibly lucky this page has survived at all (because much of his art hasn't), but on the other hand it's a shame that it has been treated very poorly: the page is dirty and smudged all over (making it very hard even to clean as the shading on the art has been done with a pencil) and there's even a piece torn out from the bottom right corner. But none of that can take away from drawing itself, which is absolutely masterful. This is from an irregular series featuring Kuninkalan Eenokki ("Enoch"). It ran for a few pages in the magazine Suomen Kuvalehti in 1933 (this one in the issue 33 / 1933, August 12), as well as some single-panel cartoons. This is the best page in the series, and in it Enoch wonders how his suit, manufactured in England from wool grown in Australia, can provide livelihood for so many people around the world - even though he has never actually paid for it.
