This story was set in England so (the great) Bob Haney's usual campy dialog was further... punctuated... by various British idioms.

I always liked the way Nick drew fog and shadows, and here, he's certainly created a very moody "Bat Chap" page (not to be confused with a Bat Hombre or, my favorite, "Der Fledermausmann" page). As for the campy dialogue (I've read that Haney swore he seldom watched and was not influenced by the Batman TV show), it may not be as serious as some of the Aparo stories that he would write later, but it has nothing on those pre-Adams stories.
