DescriptionOne of the most striking single images from Miller and Mazzucchelli's "Born Again". I generally prefer "paneled" art which I feel is the essence of comics but made an exception in this case. I recently had a chance to revisit "Born Again" after a period of some 20 years and found that the story still holds up. On a purely technical level, Mazzucchelli's superhero art on "Batman: Year One" is superior as is Miller's writing. This story, however, has much more emotional heft and "connects" better as a result. Batman: Year One, while marvelous to behold, remains a relatively dry origin story. Purchased from David Mazzucchelli via his representative August 2009.Social/Sharing |

I still remember the impact this image had back when. The bees knees!

I may quibble with your assessment of Year One, but not of this art. It is a true splash, with purpose and impact beyond a big & pretty picture, if that makes sense, not to mention the climax to one of the best superhero sagas of its era.

A stunning piece! BORN AGAIN is still The King...as acclaimed as the recent Bendis/Maleev and Brubaker/Lark runs are, they don't come close to BA. Congrats Suat!

To quote something Mr Miller wrote later on in his career - "This is madness! This is Sparta!!" What a piece!!!!

My friend, what you have here is in my opinion the single best image of Daredevil ever. I used to check it monthly on the site where it was, hoping nobody had taken it, and that it was there for me, just in case i won the lottery... happy to see that it ended in a very nice collection, anyway. Congratulations - even for your cold blood, I would have gone really really mad in the description ;-)

I am SO jealous. Like Lorenzo, I checked its availability every now and then, hoping it would still be there when I could afford this masterpiece. More than the best page of Mazzucchelli's run on DD, it's also THE iconic image of one of Miller's best run, meaning one of the best run in comics history. Sincere congrats for that beautiful Grail. Glad to know it found a great home (and still very jealous ;-)

While the debate can rage on endlessly to which Miller / Mazzucchelli collaboration each individual collector prefers, there is no debate that this is one of the best Daredevil pages . . . ever! Stumbling upon this page in your collection, a flood of memories hit me almost as hard as the impact of this page when I first encountered it in the comics all those years ago. A grail in anyone's collection. Tremendous congratulations my friend!

While you and I may disagree on art preference (panels for you and single images for me), I am in total agreement with the first line of your description. That pretty much says it all. Congratulations on this gem of a Mazzuchelli page! Unbelievable!!!!!

It's always fun to to explore new galleries after a fellow collector has left a recent comment on one of my aquisitions. And then I find this masterpiece from probably my favorite story arc of all time. Born Again holds up very well over the years and one I revisit constantly as it has real depth and I love the symbology used throughout the art. BIG congrats on acquiring this modern age grail and further kudos on an overall beautiful and eclectic collection.

Probably one of the best two or three pages from that entire run- and I say that was one of the best damn comics' stories I've ever read! Truly a special piece!

It's maybe a splash, but we can all see some storytelling here. Knowing how Matt Murdock has always been benevolent, to show him in a very threatening posture is splendid sorytelling. A demon surrounded by the flames, ready to strike back. A really beautiful piece. Congrats.

Mazuchelli's work is so graphically strong. I too fell for his style in Batman: Year One. Squint your eyes while looking at the page. The white 'negative space' becomes so brilliantly vibrant. The DD on his chest shines like a beacon. This is a fantastic piece of work by a deceptively simplistic graphic genius.

The adjectives do not do this page justice: stunning, breath-taking, jaw-dropping etc etc. An iconic page by an iconic Daredevil artist from an iconic run on the title. Seriously big congrats!
