Karate Kid vs. Spider-Man by Pat Olliffe and Simon Gough

I’m not sure where I first saw Pat’s art, but I became a big fan during his run on Untold Tales of Spider-Man. Pat has a nice, clean style, and his story-telling abilities are second-to-none. Scott Kress at Catskill Comics helped me set up this piece (thanks Scott!) and told me that Pat is a big Legion of Super-Heroes fan, which I did not know before commissioning this piece. And what a great piece it is! I don’t know if Spidey was sneaking up on Val, and Val sensed him there and kicked, or if Spidey is just dodging the kick during a regular fight thanks to his Spider-Sense. But either way, I’d love to see Pat draw a whole comic about this encounter. Years later I sent this over to Simon Gough and he put some classic-feeling colors on it. Simon uses a variety of coloring styles, and each one work uniquely with the drawing. Big thanks to Pat and Simon for their work on this commission!

Speaking of this encounter, what a fight it could be! Spidey is outclassed in terms of fighting skills but Pete is faster and stronger than Val Armorr, AND he has his Spider-Sense, so Val would have a tough battle here. And with Val using his flight ring, this fight could go all through the skies.
