Wolverine meets Mephisto, by Scott Wegener and Jeff Powell

The first issue of the new Wolverine book had recently come out, and it was part one of "Wolverine Goes To Hell." Yep, that's right. Logan has been pretty much everywhere else in time & space, so now Marvel have sent him to the infernal realm.

Anyway, there was a blank sketch cover variant of Wolverine #1 for sale. Suddenly I had this image in my head of Mephisto gleefully welcoming a cheesed-off Logan to perdition. I quickly scribbled out a really lame-@$$ "concept sketch" on an old backboard (see below) and showed it to Scott. He and Jeff ran with it. Scott added Mephisto holding a cake as a housewarming gift, and gave Wolverine a totally exasperated look. Then when Jeff lettered the dialogue, he had Mephisto calling Logan by his supposed real first name, James. Yep, Wolverine is definitely in hell!
