I'm using the next two pages to segueway into my final topic for Page 23, and tie up a few loose ends. Superman is of course the most iconic and the birth of all the comic book super-heroes. I had been "yowyowing" that my JLA/Avengers #1 page 47 was the best comic art page ever. I still say it holds up, but what I was really interested in was what the cover to Superman #14 was going to fetch. Since no pages from Action Comics #1 apparently exist, I'll give my hats off to this cover as the greatest piece of original comic book art. With the first appearances of Superman and Batman in comics both going for a million plus, I'm sure the selller was looking for a seven figure payday as well. Turns out the final bid was north of $400,000.00, but did not meet the minium bid. I was a little disappointed in this, but it brings up some interesting points. Everyone knows who Superman is, but Warner Brothers keeps having problems rebooting the franchise. One problem people keep having is no one knows how to write Superman anymore. He once stood for "Truth, Justice, and the American Way". The American Way part is getting a lot of flack these days, some from overseas fans who say Superman is a world wide icon (which I can comprehend). Others keep saying the american way is this or that, but most start falling into some political rant. HEY, HERE'S ONE EXAMPLE OF THE AMERICAN WAY!!! Not only is he a Superman, he's a SuperGENTLEman!!!
