Orion vs.
The Absorbing Man by
Dan McDaid
I honestly can't remember if I first saw Dan's art on the internet or in the pages of Jersey Gods, but either way I know I liked it. A LOT. Dan is a great storyteller and he knows how to infuse a lot of energy into his work, so of course I thought he'd be perfect for an Asgard/Fourth World commission! The original idea for this piece was Loki vs. Orion, but it sort of evolved. Loki usually tries to avoid direct physical confrontations and often sends pawns against his enemies, like he's done with Thor a thousand times or more. As a matter of fact, that's how Crusher Creel obtained his powers when Loki set him up against Thor. So if Loki knows that Orion is a physical powerhouse on Thor's level, of course he would send someone else to take care of him. I LOVE this piece! I really like Loki's shadow, the Kirby dots, and just how massive and powerful the characters look. Big thanks to Dan for doing this one for me!
The Absorbing Man is extremely powerful, and has come close to completely defeating Thor multiple times, so Orion's gonna have his hands full. If Crusher can absorb the properties of Orion's Astro Force, then there will be serious trouble. But Orion is no slouch in the power department himself, and is a total warrior. I say Orion wins after getting the snot kicked out of him, but who knows what happens afterwards when Loki shows up?
If you like this piece then please do go buy some books featuring Dan's work in either physical or digital format and/or go commission him yourself.
