Description

Commisioned in 1988 by US Gold Software for the Capcom videogame "Black Tiger", for versions of the game created for the Amiga, Atari ST, C64, Amstrad and ZX Spectrum. The artwork was used for box art, multiple advertising layouts, and magazine centrefold posters. Approx size 20 x 28".

This painting was part of a series of Capcom games paintings created by Jones. Black Tiger was a very high profile release for Capcom and US Gold at the time, with the artwork being used in an extensive UK/European magazine advertising campaign that ran for more than a year.

The main characters in the painting are based on an earlier painting produced in 1987 by an inhouse Capcom artist (uncredited), originally used for the promotion of the Japanese and US version of the arcade coinop.

The title of the game in Japan was "Black Dragon", and as far as I can tell, there are no tigers anywhere in the game.
