Beatty, Terry - Rita Hayworth

This Terry Beatty drawing of Rita Hayworth was commissioned when I saw a similar piece Terry did of Ava Gardner for someone else. It is based on four different promotional photos from the movie, GILDA. Terry believed this to be such an iconic pose, that he felt he had to go with it. Terry started by doing a sketch using Manga Studio -- drawing with a tablet and stylus. No more of Terry's art paper wasted on prelims. The next step for Terry was to print out the rough at 11x17 and transfer it in pencil via lightbox onto bristol board for inking. Terry believed that Rita needed a little tightening up in the pencil stage -- so in the additional images you can see what he did before starting the inks. The process is a little different here -- the gray tones are acrylic paint -- so it's a mixed media piece. Terry was kind enough to say that "this particular client keeps having me do pieces that I'm tempted to keep for myself!" which I take to be quite a compliment! Terry finished this piece at the very beginning of August 2011, but because I had commissioned two other pieces from Terry, it only arrived in November 2011.
