Justice League by Carmine Infantino

The odds of getting a Carmine Infantino commission are pretty remote these days. it is a commission that has eleuded me throughout the years, although I have been able to pick up several rough pieces by Carmine and had at least one finished so far (thanks Joe Rubinstein).

But one day as I was scanning ebay I saw this really remarkable piece of art in front of me featuring Carmine with his take on several members of the Justice League of America.

Better yet, it had a buy it now offer, which I did. The description said this was a piece that Carmine began work on for the Warner Brothers stores in the 90s before the corporation pulled the plug on the franchise.

This would explain the unfinished inks on the work.

Needless to say I am thrilled to have picked this up, since I am a huge fan of Carmine's work and think because of his transition to Editorial Director and then Publisher of DC comics, Carmine's work is under appreciated. In my mind Infantino was DC's version of Kirby in the Silver Age.

I can't think of a better way to kick off the new year.
