I found Turner advertizing himself over on freelanced.com and really liked his style. I got in touch and we started talking ideas. In the end I went with two, the Hornet one, and this one. This one is certainly my favorite of the two. Love Sherlock and love Charlie. Putting them together is such a natural. I just love the piece that David Hitchcock did for me with all the big names and this one goes right up there with that one. I'm not even sure where to begin.
I love that he gave Charlie a larger presence in the piece. It would seem so natural to make this all Sherlock and just have Charlie in the background but Turner's got him front and center. I like how the globe is set to show the world as England saw it at the time and how it's highlighting Africa plays into the Egyptian statue. How the body is left off panel suggesting a gruesome end. And just the little touch that if these two were really to ever have meet Holmes would've been a lot older than Charlie, something that Turner picked up on the you can see the age in Holmes's face. A very nice piece of work from a very nice guy. Plus, Turner threw in, like, a truckload of prelims for this as well. I've got my favorite one below.
Plus, he's actually looking for some more commission so you can check out Turner's site, check out his CAF page or just drop him a line at
[email protected]. If you visit his site make sure you check out his Tolkien stuff.

And then came Gerry ... It wasn't even something I asked him to do for me. This beaut just showed up in my in-box one day. Classy guy and a really good colorist too. Thanks Gerry.
