Another very generous gift from my buddy and bro Jonathan Mueller. Not enough that he’s a true and loyal friend who’s done me countless favors. He keeps giving me free art as well. Then again, I don’t know why I’m so surprised. Considering the fact that he gave me a piece on the very day we met (see the Buzz MJ/Spidey piece also in this gallery). I mean, honestly, who gives free art to a complete stranger????? If his bank account was the same size as his heart, he’d have one of the biggest art collections in the hobby!
Anyway, when I saw this prelim to my Nowlan Defenders piece on ebay, I knew I had to have it. I had already picked up two smaller roughs for the same piece directly from Kevin a couple of years ago, during which he and I had a very interesting discussion about trying to keep all prelims together with their finished counterparts. He and I really saw eye to eye on this and ever since then I’ve tried to keep true to that principle. So when this prelim popped up, that was the first thing I thought about.
Of course it had to be a paypal auction, and as I have yet to get my own account, I asked Jon to bid and just let me know what the final price was so I could reimburse him. Jon being Jon, he did as he’s usually done in the past – forget to bid on the auction, and then contact the seller afterwards to see if he could still buy it. (In this case, that turned out to be fellow CAF member Sean Wasielewski.) Sometimes that would actually work in his favor and the seller would give it to him for a lower price than the auction (which, of course, made up for him forgetting to bid, LOL). Not sure what he ended up getting this piece for, but it turned out to be a moot point as once again he refused to let me reimburse him and simply gave the piece to me as a gift. AGAIN!!!!!
Thank you my friend, you are one in a million (or maybe that should be BILLION)!
