Description
I love the Invaders. I love our country. And I loved Gene Colan's artwork! Back in 2003 we were preparing to go back to Iraq. The 1st Gulf War was a speedy success and at the time of the 2nd, it seemed like we could count on the same outcome. I contacted Gene Colan with patriotic spirit and asked him what would happen if Marvel's WWII heroes, The Invaders went to current day Iraq to help topple their dictator... THIS amazing art is what he sent back. While working on it, I heard from Gene and his wife that he really enjoyed working on this one... and he took his time! This piece is huge... approx 16x22 and his pencils are SO detailed! The shading, the palace, the rifle... and mostly, the faces! Just look at those faces! This art is quite the conversation starter in my house and I salute the late Gene Colan for the amazing work he did on my behalf. The art is framed so taking a good picture that reflects the detail of the art is a tall order. But then again, no picture could do this one justice.

Gene Colan was one of a kind and I love his Invaders (I have a Colan Invaders commission hanging over my desk) and this is really a terrific example of Gene's wizardry with a pencil..

One is wearing the American flag and I thought America was buddies with Iraq when they were at war with Iran? Hmm, they were friends wth the Russians during the second world war and then... I begin to see an emerging pattern.
