Description
Wow. What can I say? This one of my favorite pages from one of my top three all-time favorite Superman stories. I remember reading this Alan Moore written, Dave Gibbons drawn, story over and over again before I ever knew to check a writing credit or pay attention to who drew a comic I knew that I loved this story. This was one of the books that pushed me towards finding the guys who created these stories and inevitably into original art collecting.

I can still remember laying awake thinking up the possibilities that the Black Mercy created. What was my heart's desire and could I ever give it up even if I knew it wasn't real? Mongul is pretty much the perfect villain for this story. He's powerful and intelligent and ultimately undone by his own ultimate weapon.

Many thanks to Sean for letting this page go and allowing me to take it home. If I had to pick from any page in the story I would have a hard time hand picking one better than this. The moment Wonder Woman, Batman, and Robin discover the Man of Steel so perfectly rendered by Dave Gibbons just a year before he would embark on immortality, again working with Alan Moore, on Watchmen.

Thanks for looking and thanks to Joseph for making sure it made it all the way BACK across the Atlantic and into my very happy hands.

Fabulous page from one of the greatest Superman stories ever. And what a page it is, with Wonder Woman, Batman and Robin examining Supes, who's frozen and seemingly locked in his own world. Love that second panel where Wonder Woman is examining Superman with an almost caring look but Batman is all business, pacing back and forth trying to solve the mystery. But the best panel on the page is the final one where we can see Superman's look of despair as the three other superheroes look helpless and Batman says, "He's in a world of his own." Great moment in a great story. Fantastic pick-up, Chris!
