“I had come back from a trip to San Francisco, where I’d taken a ton of photos and fallen in love with the city. I wanted to shake up Daredevil and make it my own. I’d written a Black Widow story, plotted by Roy [Thomas], that Gene Colan had drawn. I was so taken with the character, and Gene’s approach, that I put her in Daredevil as a guest star. There seemed to be some natural chemistry between them. I think Gene’s Black Widow was comics’ first empowered, sexy babe.” ~ Gerry Conway

I remember this well. Well enough that I had to get Gene to create a DD/BW for me. His work with Palmer was always excellent and I agree with Gerry - BW was an amazing character.
