Description
When I was in 3rd grade, I found a copy of Amazing Spider-Man #140 at my school's library, left on a shelf by someone. I asked the librarian if I could have it, and she told me I had to wait until the end of the day in case the owner claimed it. That was a very long day for me, but in the end no one claimed the comic. I believe that was the first comic I ever owned, so I am really, really pleased to have acquired this splash page from Mike Burkey. Mike was very easy to work with and allowed me to pay for this over several months. Thanks Mike! And thanks also to Jeff and Aaron, who both gave good counsel as I considered pulling the trigger on this.

Great piece--always liked weird villains like the Grizzly. And I love the inkwork on the page--I assume that's Giacoia; so much texture.

This is certainly a grail piece, featuring the GRIZZLY and the JACKAL, two of Spidey's best bronze-age villains.

I was introduced to Spider-Man around this time, when I got #135 through 138 from Cherokee Comics on Hollywood Blvd. So this is my era and I love it. I bought this splash from another collector in 1995 and sold it for the price I paid a couple weeks later. I think it was a hundred bucks? Something like that?

Also: I love that if you've read the storyline to the end and go back, it's really hard to figure out why Professor Warren is walking on his palms like that.

Nice splash featuring Spidey's villains but I especially love your story. What a great story! It can't be emphasized enough how much a piece means when you can remember every detail about this comic book so vividly.

This is my favorite kind of collector story in our nutty hobby... major congrats, Lee! This is right around when I started formally collecting the book, too, and Andru/Giacoia/Hunt looks better than ever to my presbyopic eyes!
