DescriptionDave Cockrum's art in Uncanny X-Men #162 has always stood out in my mind as some of the best and most memorable work of his career. He did an incredible job alongside inker Bob Wiacek of rendering Wolverine's one-man offensive against the Brood that left an indelible impression on me as a young comic book fan new to the X-Men.The fight reaches its climax on page 26 with Wolverine literally knee-deep in Brood looking as feral and visceral as you could imagine. "They do their best," he says. "I do better." This page was listed in a Heritage Comics auction in 2005 and I couldn't resist bidding to win. An added bonus, Cockrum did a sketch of the dreaded Dukamok! I have no idea what inspired the sketch, but Cockrum had a great sense of humor and was constantly coming up with funny variations on the X-Men cast of characters. Among my favorites were those in Uncanny X-Men #153 "Kitty's Fairytale" with Wolverine as The Fiend with No Name and Nightcrawler as a Bamf. Good stuff! Social/Sharing |

I'm curious if anyone on CAF knows the story behind Dukamok. Dave Cockrum did a lot of sketches on the backs of his original art pages, but I've never encountered this character before.

The only page I remember from Cockrum's second time on the book. You got his best page from that period.

When I saw this image pop up on the CAF Roundup email, I felt a rush of adrenalin and clicked on the image as quickly as I could. Wow! There aren't many splashes of Wolverine being the best he is at what he does like this one. Congrats!
