DescriptionWalked into a comic store and saw this on the wall. It stopped me dead in my tracks. With a little information and some coaxing from a fellow OA collector (you know who you are) I reached for my wallet and took this baby home. This was to be a Savage Sword Of Conan story penciled and inked by the great Alfredo Alcala. I'm trying to get more info on it so stay tuned. 8/7/16: My friend Drake Tungsten on CAF contacted me and has a very interesting revelation of what this page was to become. He discovered it was to be an adaptation of a Robert E. Howard story called "Hawks of Outremer" with the character Cormac FitzGeoffrey replaced by Conan. The very first chapter is titled "A Man Returns". Other Marvel Conan stories have been based on Cormac adventures. "The Blood of Belshazzar" is one example. Issue 222 of SSOC has a story called "Haunters of Terror Tower" which is the published adaptation of Hawks of Outremer" with art by Malcolm Davis. Why Alcala's work wasn't used is still a mystery. I know of at least four other pages Alcala penciled for this story line. Social/Sharing |

Alcala was all about lighting and contrast. This may be one of the best pure Alcala pieces on CAF.
