Description

I believe this is Mark Schultz's only published superhero artwork for Marvel (or at least his only cover). Either way it's a gorgeous piece and I was thrilled to buy it.

This was an alternate future version of the Fantastic Four featuring the Human Torch, his Skrull wife Lyja, The Thing and Franklin Richards. The little guy is called the Big Brain robot and is controlled by Reed Richards.

I bought this directly from the artist in 2005.

This art was also published on page 21 of Modern Masters Volume 15, published by TwoMorrows in 2008.

I remember seeing this original many years ago, perhaps in San Diego when Mark still owned it. Either way, I remember thinking how much I wished it was an image of the classic Fantastic Four as we know them, and I still do, but I have to admit that at least visually speaking, it's great that the 2 best members are still there, and having Lyja there as a replacement for Sue is also pretty cool. That doesn't even cover the fact that it's such a rare, mainstream superhero piece for the brush master himself, as you mentioned, which is doubly cool!
