DescriptionImage used for the X-Men Red corner box from issue 3 onward and as a variant cover to that same issue 3.Travis Charest was one of the artists that I became a tad obsessed with in the late 90s. Back then I thought he was going to be a dominant Artist of that generation but then he seemed to fade out of view (or I just lost track of him). He came back on my radar with his fantastic X-Men Red covers (Jean Grey and Nightcrawler were phenomenal). This headshot is a really nice example of his newer scratchy style. Travis works with color now for covers and these black and white cover pieces are really cool alternatives. The intricate linework days of the 90's are long gone, but the fundamentals are still there. His new work still commands a premium, with an appeal to fans old and new.

It’s hard to comment on what happened with Travis. I would argue he’s still just as talented as ever but I certainly understand people who haven’t necessarily come along on his artistic journey. To those who feel his best days are behind him, good. Maybe his art will remain more affordable ;)

I might reword my description to be clearer about what I meant.
Which was: He seemed to fade from view for a while and now that I'm seeing his work again it feels quite different. Kinda me saying "this isn't a nostalgia purchase". It's a lot more raw and scratchy in his inking. It's a trickier thing to pull off well but he's certainly proven that he can.
