DescriptionTo me, this is is one of the greatest Batman images ever. Used as both the back cover of the Batman: Son of the Demon graphic novel hard cover, as well as the title page. Memorable to me most of all, the image was the primary source for a 1988 DC licensed t-shirt with a solitary Batman and his swooping cape. Summer of my sophomore year in high school, working at a newstand that also sold comics, I wore this shirt with a religious fervor. The image is seared into my brain (see photos!). Nothing best captures that summer for me than this stunning piece of art, and I will treasure it!The art is also unique as there are no splash pages in Son of the Demon…other than the painted covers to the soft and hard cover editions, there isn’t a single image that defines this very first graphic novel. Except for this one, in all its inky glory. The oversized pages and Jerry’s use of India inks just makes it even more impactful in person. Thank you to the seller for putting this out into the open market. There wasn’t a scenario where I wasn’t pursuing this with all my might. Social/Sharing |

A great standlone piece from Batman: Son of the Demon. Maybe Bingham's best Batman drawing ? It caps off your great Bingham collection.

The oversized album format, the early push into "graphic novels" by DC... they weren't pulling any punches! Amazing that you have this now in your collection. Bravo.

Thanks Felix. I went around shaking the bushes before the auction, to see if anyone else was going at it with equal gusto. Wait until you see it...it's glorious.

My wardrobe in the summer of '89 consisted of four t-shirts - a Bolland Joker shirt, a Ron Lim Silver Surfer shirt, a white Batman shirt, and a black shirt with this image on it. Congrats on picking up such a memorable piece of art!

Mastery of mood and atmosphere. What Bingham chooses to show is made even more important.

It really is, to me, the best Batman image ever put together. Glad you liked it!

So effective - a true knight of the dark. Love how he's kind of emerging from the darkness. Or entering? Not being so clear is what I dig about it! And Bingham...definitely underrated IMO. Congrats, Bob!
