Description11 x 17Maybe start slowly sharing this story to celebrate DWJ's recognition at the Eisner's for Best Writer/Artist as well as Best Continuing Series for Transformers. I think DWJ is the best contemporary "mainstream" comics writer/artist. His books have everything a comics fan of any age can get an amazing reading experience from. With that said, personally, Do A Powerbomb is his greatest work to date. Just an incredibly soulful book that brings it to you in an action packed package. So much compelling character building, incredible twists and turns in plot, and totally sticking the landing. Really the perfect comic. I was looking at a complete issue as it was coming out. I wanted one that not only had action but had the heart of a DWJ comic. Probably some of the issues ahead of this may have been better buys for the sheer action pages but I was happy to wait and this issue came out. It had everything I wanted. My favorite character from the series, Yua Steelrose, played a big role in the issue after having appeared in the very beginning of the opener. The action was spectacular while the entire family relationship was fleshed out beautifully. It also had a top 2 page in the entire series for me which I'll share later. What can one say about this page?? A moonsault from the stands? What happens next? Look at that crowd. Look at the scale. The action end of this issue was fulfilled in spades. As good as this page is, it's not my favorite from this issue. Another, there is. Social/Sharing |

It would be easy to pore over its details all day- the micro of all the faces in the crowd, the story's climax and subversion of our expectations, and DWJ bringing it all home with one of his best stories to date. Can't wait to see the rest.

OOHHHHHHH you can feel the energy on this page as the entire crowd is suspended in disbelief. Great facial expressions to compliment the magical action sequence!

Yup, this one's got it all as a DWJ indicative example as you note! The cinematic vibe, the energy, the stylization, the lettering incoporated into the image...yep, checks all them DWJisms! Dynamic stuff, CAC, big congrats!

Nobody does work at this level like Daniel Warren Johnson! Who else draws massive scenes like a packed arena and then fills it with so much detail? No one! DWJ understands the importance of establishing a sense of place in a comic. He didn't just draw the main character and some action, he draws the whole damn arena! Look at all the people he packed into the stands! Look at the way he included the concrete stairs, the railings, even the pillars holding up the roof! And yet he's able to keep the focus on the main character! I haven't seen this kind of mastery of the medium since George Perez! Daniel Warren Johnson deserves the Eisner Awards he won this year more than any other artist because he works harder than any other aritst. This splash page is a perfect example of his extraordinary talent! Congrats on picking up a fabulous example of DWJ greatness!

A stunning page from Daniel Warren Johnson's "Do A Powerbomb!" DWJ has rapidly become recognized as one of the most exciting talents in comics, thanks to his work on Do A Powerbomb!", "Transformers" and now, "The Moon is Following Us." This page is a great demonstration of Daniel's talent. Look at tthe scale of this page! Who draws backgrounds like this any more? Who does their own sound effects and makes them part of the design? DWJ is breaking records in sale by breaking the rules. He lays it all out on the page and spares nothing. A star is born!
