DescriptionFor me this is a biggie. A few weeks ago I was just contemplating hitting my 40th birthday, planning a party with friends and family and all that jazz. My fiancee Dawn had mentioned that one of her friends was having a leaving lunch in the centre of London and did I want to go. 'Sure, why not' I said, after all it would be nice to get out since we had spent all our recent weekends sorting out our new house.We got to the restaurant and there were only 3 seats at our table, which made me highly suspicious.......and then who should turn up but Jim Reid (for those that know him, we should probably call him 'gentleman' Jim Reid). It turns out that he, Dawn and my best art collecting mate John Bamber had been planning a surprise for my 40th and that Jim had rearranged his business trip to the Uk to deliver this piece of art from his collection personally. Dawn and John had been collaborating to shift this from Jim's collection (where it has been for quite a number of years) and Jim had agreed to let it go (I'm sure for much less than it is worth...he is just that nice). What Dawn didn't know is that this piece has been on a secret list of my most wanted for years (hey it's Adams. Marvel and Xmas....what is not to like) so I am totally bowled over by the generosity of friends and the love of an understanding woman. An all-star Marvel roster AND Santa, all drawn by Adams! What's not to like indeed. Congrats and Happy Birthday! My 40th was too long ago for me to remember clearly, but I'm pretty sure I didn't get anything this nice!

Wow...Congrats, Jason! Great tale...and the artwork is almost as great as your fiance! Either way, I'd say both are keepers. Enjoy your forth decade on the planet!

Just saw you'd posted it. A really great example of prime Adams goodness. V pleased for you mate, it's going to be tough to top this one. Maybe by the big 5-0? ;o)

I agree with Joseph. Would love to see you top this for your 50th, but it's going to be awfully difficult. This is about as good as it gets for prime Adams! Congrats!

I knew I commented on this piece before, but I forgot I had actually commented twice already. Anyway, I suppose we may as well go for the hat trick. Congrats on getting this used for the cover of Arthur's Marvel omnibus. I contacted him to see if maybe he had the artwork for the Santa patch, but never heard back. I also had to chuckle when I re-read your description about how nice it was for Jim to let this go for your birthday. I was hoping for the same results when I asked him to possibly let loose of another of his prized Adams pieces to commemorate my 100th piece, but no such luck. That won't change my opinion of him though. He really is just that nice. Just not to me. (Kidding Jim!)
