DescriptionRichard Donner's SUPERMAN is one of the first movies I remember seeing as a child, and one that stays with me to this day. I also remember my mom telling me about her favorite of Superman's villains: Bizarro.Eric Powell recently put up for sale his stunning cover to 2007's Action Comics #855, the first of the classic three-part story arc "Escape From Bizarro World." I leapt at the chance to pick it up. Richard Donner co-wrote the arc with Geoff Johns, his protege, and the Powell art throughout the story really delivers the heartbreak that is Bizarro. This cover captures it perfectly: the hero in the spotlight, the Frankenstein's monster doomed to live his life in the shadows, an imperfect replica who is all too aware of his own tragic shortcomings.
