Frank King

Perhaps one of the most underappreciated comic creator. He was not the illustrator that Raymond or Foster were. He was not the cartoonist that Disney or Herriman were. He was a story teller and a pioneer. His artwork is deceptively brilliant with a mastery of line and light that is not evident immediately but once you see it, it is impossible to not recognize as the work of a genius. He also did something no one else had done before, he aged his characters and in the telling of their lives he has told perhaps the greatest tale of the everyday man. Perhaps the great American novel has been written and perhaps it was written with a language many critics have yet to discover, that of sequential art. Quiet, unassuming, charming and unforgettable... the legacy of Frank King.
