Disney Great Mouse Detective (Basil of Baker Street)

      A confluence of two of my favorites, Disney animation and Sherlock Holmes. For Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's detective, I watched TV and saw the 1940's films featuring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. I read and reread the novels and short stories. The Granada television series of the 1980's and 1990's featuring Jeremy Brett as Sherlock and David Burke, and later Edward Hardwicke, as Dr. John Watson is my ideal as a filmed adaptation. The Disney studio chose to do Eve Titus's Basil of Baker Street with Burny Mattinson as director and producer. The title was changed to a rather bland one. The Great Mouse Detective is one of first films of Disney's younger generation of film makers and artists. The first director credits for Ron Clements and John Musker. Glen Keane was supervising animator for Ratigan. Andreas Deja was an animator.
