STRIP ART - Cisco Kid
The Cisco Kid has a special place in my heart, as it was the first strip I focused on when I first decided to collect strip art. Jose Luis Salinas was an artist of the highest caliber, and his wizardry with the brush was masterful. Both Salinas and the Cisco Kid strip itself are most well known for their never ending attention to detail, primarily in hand painting the incredibly intricate, embroidered flower pattern that goes up and down the shirt sleeves, as well as both the right and left sides of his torso, both front and back! Salinas did this painstaking work almost every single day, six days per week, for an unimaginable 18 straight years!
Salinas was also a master at delineating horses. Drawing horses accurately and realistically is one of the most difficult things to pull off in both illustration and fine art, but Salinas did it in spades.
While they did not appear nearly as often as you would think within the confines of a Western strip, when they did appear, Salinas also drew exquisite portrayals of Native Americans as they appeared back in the latter half of the 19th century.
All these elements I've just mentioned above are the ones I personally feel any given daily should contain in order for me to consider it a "top notch" example, and my vision of a "top example" is all I'm looking for to add to my collection.
