Dick Moores (1909-1986) is best known as one of the longtime artists on Gasoline Alley, working on the strip from 1956 to his passing in 1986. Previous to that, Moores had his own strip, Jim Hardy, during which time in Chicago, from 1936 to 1942, he shared a studio with Frank King. After Jim Hardy, Moores worked on a number of comic strips for Walt Disney, spending 14 years working on various features before working for Frank King. Dick Moores was one of the best designers in comics. His panel layouts, use of open space, and seeming ease in which he changed viewpoints, created wonderful movement in a slow-paced comic strip. Moores' figure work straddled the fence between cartoon and realism, but his figures always moved with ease and grace, including his wonderful animal figures.
