I met so many wonderful folks in the comic business, but most of all the friendships that I had with many a comic book artist, and especially writers. It was the dream of so many readers to write or draw the comic books that enchanted us as kids. Comic book fandom was big when I was in high school and beyond. The first wave of Thomas, Skeates, Wolfman, Wein and Wrightson and others hit in the sixties. Another group of fans materialized as the decade changed - so many of us belonging to apas like New York Apa, or Capa-Alpha, or Interlac - which became breeding grounds for the Junior Woodchucks at DC, or the new wave of assistant editors and production folks at Marvel. You kinda had to live in New York City back then. I was fortunate to land a job in the Steranko compound in 1974, which led to meeting so many of the pros in and around the NYC/Pennsylvania area. We wrote letters back then, always asking uestions. And later, in various convention jaunts while working for the local comic book stores in Minnesota, developed new friendships with comic book pros, as well as always revisiting fans and pros from years past to exchange memories, as well as the continued enthusiasm for the comic art medium.
