Back in 2015 Cool Mini Or Not did a Kickstarter for The Others: Seven Sins, a boardgame set in the near-future where an eclectic cast of characters fight against the Seven Deadly Sins, their minions, and if memory serves the Four Horsemen and some other bro whose name escapes me. Anyhow, one of the player characters was Skye, the token redhead of the game who was a werewolf who was more speedy than strong, at least compared to the other werewolf in the game. Described as the “team mom,” she was the first werewolf character I ever actually liked. Naturally, my interest turned into commissioning artists to depict her. It was only about 15 minutes after I first paid an artist to illustrate her that I realized that rather than being a fully-original character, she was a gender (and ginger) swapped version of Squall Leonhart; several characters in the game were “homages” to various established characters. Dula Luck factors into this coincidence, as what little I know about Final Fantasy comes from a former girlfriend obsessed with Final Fantasy VIII, as well as a woman I encountered in the early 2000s who looked exactly like Selphie, while having no idea what Final Fantasy was.
