Nightshade, the Darling of Darkness, was first introduced by writer Dave Kaler and artist Steve Ditko in the pages of Captain Atom #82 (Charlton Comics, September 1966). She appeared several times in Captain Atom stories, before getting her own backup series in the last three published issues (#87-89) drawn by Jim Aparo, his first work in comics. Nightshade was later incorporated into the DC Universe when the company purchased the Charlton characters.
