ROGERS MARSHALL

One of the modern masters just left us. I was exposed to Marshall’s work through his Surfer run that took some time for me to warm to to tell the truth (I was younger and more into flashy art ).Then I was blown away by his Daughters of the Dragon story. Then his Dr Strange and Mr Miracle came to me while I was searching for Paul Smith and Golden issues and it was so good. I’ve since then enjoyed and collected his work over the years. And I must say that having read his Batman from the 70s (such a wonderful architect for Gotham roofs) and Coyote recently that his older work never took a wrinkle. Such a fantastic storyteller with a lot of challenging successful experiments in that field. And his last reunion with Englearth and Austin showed he still had the goods and plenty of them (as if all of the splendid commissions he’s been doing over the years couldn’t attest).A true draftman.You’ll be missed Mr Rogers.
