Q&A with Marshal Law

Which piece in your gallery is your favorite and why?

I have always admired the artwork of Jamie Hernandez and the Love & Rocket comic. However very little is offered in Europe, where I live. So when a friend of mine offered to sell this, I immeadiately jumped on it, although the price was steep to me. However I have never regretted the purchase and it is definately the grail in my collection. I love the precise inking, the way the lines and patters come together. From the parallel running stairs to the shirt design of the chequered shirt.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

Massive comic fan. From super heroes to fantasy to crime stories to what one now calls graphic novels. I never focussed just on one genre or country origin. There is just too much great stuff out there. Fav artists are: Hugo Pratt, Jordi Bernet, John Buscema, Sean Philipps, Giraud, Darwyn Cooke, Jaime Hernandez, Will Eisner, Tardi, Corben, Joe Sacco ( too name a few)

How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start?

My 1st sketch I got when I was 18 - which is more than 30 years ago. I was always an avid comic reader from when I was able to read. I collected only freebie sketches as this is how comic book shows were designed to in Germany (the little we have. While I never stopped reading comics, my collection paused until 2004 when I did my first trip to a UK show. I was stunned at the possibilities and the amount of great artists you could meet. I got addicted and paired up with some now friends to go to German and some nearby foreign country shows.

How do you display/store your collection at home?

Some are hanging at the wall trying to prevent sunlight damaging them. Most is stored in binders and albums.

What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions?

Unfortunately most is out of my price range: Kelley Jones Batman Darwyn Cooke - Anything Hugo Pratt - Fort Wheeling / Corto / War stories Jaime Hernandez - Hopey John Buscema - Thor

Love & Rockets by Jaime Hernandez
I always wanted to own a piece of Jaime Hernandez and when opportunity knocked at my door, I took it.
Jaime is one of my all time favourite artists, so I just had to buy it.

Howver I have little clue where the piece originates from. I assume it is a calendar piece from early 90s?
I know it has been published as it show on lambiek.net as work from Jaime.
IF ANYBODY KNOWS MORE WHERE IT HAS BEEN PUBLISHED; ANY HELP IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED
