Really interesting to see those notes, and that way of working. Thanks for sharing it.
Lovely arrangement of characters. In colour especially, this has such a late '60s SF feel. The downwards glance is very nice.
A great chase, and those Giordano inks are just so smooth. Nice action page!
That's an incredible story! (The letters page, rather than the condition part.) I'll have to dig it out to read the letter! Congrats on getting it published.
Nice Sal page, with great theatrical poses that tell so much of the story on their own. Great action in the fifth panel. Nice page, and lovely to see two Sal pages in the 'most commented in 24 hours' gallery!
Such an explosive opening panel! The change in pace to the bottom tier is really nice.
And the end of it as well, as I don't think the bad Professor was given another Marvel outing...
And so underused despite his destructive potential - not to mention his theatrical potential. Thanks!
Lovely commission. It's a very Rudy Nebres interpretation of Strange. The fingers are great fun.
The gore is off the scale. Her hair is such a deep red - redder than the blood. This definitely is Sonja like we haven't seen her before.
A great Spider-Roll-Call there, and some fabulous, classic poses. And with that disconcerting arrangement of walls, everyone gets to crawl somewhere. Great cover!
Wow, those were the days - those first 25 issues would command a fine price now. MTU #25 was the first issue I read when it actually came out, rather than as a back issue. And yes, the whole teaming up / crossover thing was always exciting, and it added to that sense of there being one big family of Marvel heroes.
Ha ha! I was surprised when I checked just how seldom Blastaar was given a run out at the scenery back in the '60s and '70s. But I guess he made the most of it when he was let loose.
Wonderful! Staton's inks on Sal are gorgeous, and to have a page from that issue which actually features the Man-Thing is a bonus. Congrats on getting a page from your very first comic! Always a special moment.
Great action page, with a spectacular composition for the opening panel. Ulik was a great foe for Thor, and Big John pose and expression in the central panel are perfect.
Thanks Kavi! I love a story recap page. They tend to have a lot of action in them! ;-)
Lovely, slick work by Davis and Neary. It was great that characters carried over from UK Marvel, to continue the defence of Otherworld. Tragic story page.
The McLeod inks would certainly have accentuated the Adams influence. It's a very accomplished page, with a great angle for the opening crater shot. Nice page!
The composition of the fourth panel is really effective, showing the throw, the run and the obstacle to Colossus' success. Nice work by DeZuniga.
Ha ha! Yes, there was never a shortage of understudies for Annihilus. Thanks, Michael.
Thanks, Danny. It's such a bragging villain's pose.
Such good art. Andru's compositions are always so dramatic and off-kilter, and Everett's inks are really slick. I love that issue. Roy Thomas's daring deconstruction of the pre-hero story of Xemnu was an oddball delight.
A great issue! Sal's storytelling is superb, and the villainous expression of Xandu in the last panel is glorious - so theatrical. Giacoia's inks are wonderful too. Great page!
Gorgeous. And it really sums up so much of what made the comic great - a duck trapped in a world he never made. Howard's expressions are perfect, and the inks are so smooth.
Can Stretcho be put back together again? Why didn't Destructo destruct anything? Does there need to be a change of heart about Dr Death and Hardcore? All these questions will hopefully be answered...
Metamorpho assumes leadership... as a pterodactyl? I guess that makes sense. Great closing panel, heralding the first adventure of the team.
Yes, I love the perspective on that panel too, showing the photos of the applicants. It has such an old-school feel, and every team needs a big table. I can't believe Dr Death didn't make it in. I assume he was the one with the axe, causing vetting concerns for Marcus. Here's hoping that Hardcore makes a reappearance, as there has to be a criminal who can only be defeated by a skateboarder.
I like the way the lines bleed out at the edges - the feet, the hair and the missing details at the edges of the guns. It makes it seem as though she is just emerging through the smoke.
Yes, the inking really makes this one, and you're absolutely right about the control over the line widths and weights. Very nicely executed - and well worth blowing up the image to see the detail.
Nice recreation, with so much of the feel of the period brought back. The figure of the Human Torch is perfect.
Nice Fred sketch. He has put so much effort into making him look bulky - but still, he didn't forget the curly knees.
Yes, Sal's expressions are so theatrical, as are his poses. The second panel is superb - there's so much storytelling going on. Nice page.
Lovely work by Alcala. It's such a shame that he didn't get to do a lot of superhero work at Marvel. The poses here are a lot of fun.
A touching piece. The eyes and quivering mouth are perfect.
Fine pencil lines, and a disconcerting image. The lack of a head and the floating book loom large, but the difference in leg widths also add to the sense of some strange distortion being at play.
That opening face is wonderful. Colon makes much use of white space here to make his figures stand out - and in the second panel to really show the two 'sides'. There's such a nice range of poses there. Springer's inks are lovely. Nice page!
No question that Redondo was up there with the greats. The faces and folds of clothing here are wonderful.
True. And the paper quality itself was very variable for Filipino art. Some of it looks to have all manner of weird fibres in it, and some looks like wallpaper. This paper looks decent quality - another sign perhaps of what the work meant to Redondo.
The angle is great, and typically Aparo. The eye drifts to the police first, thanks to the foregrounding and heavy black areas. Then we follow their guns towards the action, which is quite some distance away. Aparo puts us right in the scene.
The screw heads holding the cape in place are priceless. Nice Fred sketch.
Great fun. Yes, it does look like Jean Grey's old Marvel Girl mask. I love Emma Frost's disapproving gaze.
I actually had to look twice to see it! Nice touch. And what a great cover that was.
Lovely use of the panel shapes, especially the vine climbing action. The angles are great and the pace is fantastic. Nice art.
The outstretched hand in the first panel is superb, and so John Buscema. A brilliant expression at the lower right as well. The scratchy inks are perfect on Buscema. Lovely, lovely page.
Wonderful work by Adkins. So slick. The robot really does look to be floating. Great poses.
A very graceful pose, and a great colour scheme that makes Dazzler's face really stand out. Nicely done.
Yes, love those clocks - and the opening angle. Rude gives Superman such a classic look, focusing on the heroic pose rather than a muscular frame. Great sequence.
Thanks, John. I wonder how many other pages like this there are out there, hidden under a peeling paste-over sheet...
:-) I really wish they'd kept the 'Top Thrill' box. It was often Dan Dare in those days, rather than Dredd.
