Whoa! Great page. It is amazing how the Dude improved so much from issue to issue. This is such a grail piece that you probably don't want any of your other Nexus pages and will be happy to sell them to me. I'm here for you, brother!
When I look now at page 9 all I can hear is "woims". Caroline ruined me.
I didn't know you lived in Japan; we just came back from 10 days in Tokyo and Kyoto and the entire family loved it.
Someone beat you to the comment! Sleeping on the job ...
The classic GJ pose and look. Killer piece. Happy 4th!
Love that guy in the last panel with the horned helmet. I can hear him saying "YES" and pumping his fist (paw? Stump?)
After 40 years it has just occurred to me that Puck, which is the name of the mischievous figure in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, is also a play on the Canadian nature of the Alpha Flight team, referring to a hockey puck, Which is also small, hard and packs a big punch.
Nobody works a champagne bottle like Tony - with or without armor.
Great page from a seminal moment in the long series as Jaime transitions from the rougher sci-fi style of the first few issues into the clean line, in depth character focused style he developed. I think the humor of these early issues often gets overlooked - they were funny!
Anything for that Panama Red
I was waiting to read the Marcus Wai comment on this page but ... wait, no ... my head is exploding ... how meta.
This DWJ guy is talented. I think he may have a bright future!
Mr. Practical Pig knows what is what!
That is what was so odd here - the Pirates knew Disney would sue and actually planned to spend the cash to go the distance, figuring they would win in the end. They had fundraisers at various cons and even put out another Pirates issue solely to raise money. But then they lost anyway.
Well, he had only just returned from the (un)dead. Don't body shame him! Perhaps here he had just eaten/fed?
Separately, what is the difference between being undead (a monster) and being invulnerable (a hero)?
I forgot to mention the delightfully corny dialogue that even Namor seems to fling around.
The obvious thing to do is to hire Ogami Itto to take care of Larry Stroman for what he has done to you. Honor demands it ... Even Daigoro must be offended.
Dragon's hoard indeed! I can see why he would guard the mountain for this treasure.
Yes, I can see that. It almost looks like Clowes' Ray-Gun as well. No matter what, it continues to look like Ware is depicting himself as a crying angel? 😂
Ware as a nervous angel looking over his own work before its imminent release. Congratulations on a "big" acquisition! Hang it in a position of glory.
I love your collection; it is even freakier than mine!
He has lots more, if more choice won't cause more confusion. I picked up three, but this the only SFW one among the group.
Vigilante! Haven't heard that name in a while. Tight book.
I never noticed before, but the motorcycle panels look very Sable/Grell like. It appears Pollard was reading Sable too ...
I had to look it up - Blue Stake is such a Utah comment. lol
I wish he would bring back Binkley and his anxiety closet. I can only guess what would come out of that door each night in 2026 ...!
Trying to put together an entire issue is a fool's errand; when that issue is 40 years old it makes you Don Quixote. But I am rooting for you ... you can do it!
Amazing story and journey. I am not familiar with his work and look forward to finding a copy to read.
Great painted piece - but those are not the daughters of Nexus. They are 2 of the 3 Loomis sisters coming to take revenge on Nexus for executing their father.
The sword to scabbard ratio here is concerning - the sword is wide at the base and short at the handle. However, when Conan goes to put it away, the scabbard is wide at the mouth and narrows quickly, meaning he would only get an inch or so shealthed before it stops fitting. I can only imagine the rage that will ensue.
The broken chandelier will not slow her This time!
You are the expert, sir. You have an amazing group of her work, including WOIMS.
She is such a unique voice. You have encouraged me to go find my page by her and post it.
Painted studies by the Dude are like paintings to be studied by everybody else. He abides.
Amazing. The seminal issue where Jaime's style jumped from sci-fi to the cleaner lines and characters we came to know and love.
Nexus is using both arms to keep those comments away.
