This commission by Mike Allred is just pure, unfiltered pop-cosmic brain explosion—in the best possible way.
It feels like someone took every corner of Eli’s fan favorites —Star Trek, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the surreal linework of Jean Giraud, the wild sonic energy of Frank Zappa, and the cosmic melancholy of the Silver Surfer—and slammed it all together into one perfectly composed fever dream.
Allred’s signature style—clean, retro, and deceptively simple—somehow holds this insane mashup together.
What really makes it sing is how joyful it feels. This isn’t just a checklist of cool stuff—it’s a love letter. Every element looks like it belongs because it’s filtered through Allred’s unmistakable lens: bold lines and a kind of cosmic optimism that turns chaos into harmony.
End result: totally bonkers, deeply personal, and ridiculously awesome—like flipping through someone’s entire fandom history in one perfectly “Allred” hallucination.
All of the above and cool remarques.
Ricardo is such a great artist and knocked this one out of Hells Kitchen, so to speak.
Well done recreation. You can see how much talent went into it.
Thanks for the great comments. I really wanted a personal and eclectic group to ink this. I am so thrilled with the outcome.
Fun piece. Does this mean your sabbatical from posting/collecting is over?
Great piece. Wonderful image of Dr. Fate.
Incredible piece. Nice to see something this special from early in his career.
That i s so cool to have that note to Gerber. It helps remind us of the process that goes into apage and story.
Amazing to have a piece so old. It is so well drawn and designed.
Great piece. I love the action and energy.
The part I redacted was the personalization and his full signature [Paul Martin Smith]. A decade later he told me that he did stop using the full signature and just used the PMS. If I recall correctly, Steve Rude told him to stop using his official signature for autographs.
This is great. Wonderful action and lots of key characters.
Great homage and implemented so well. Outstanding.
Such great deeds and a heartfelt story. We need more people with compassion and empathy like this.
How did I miss this great piece? Glad I found it now.

Reminds me of the first day after school ended and wanting to get as much play as possible.
