A great Ketcham! I have one from a few months later, but still in the first year that I love. Ketcham had such a disctinctive ink line, especially in his early work and it is shown off well here.

Since I am a Scorpio, I picked up the preliminary for this piece several years ago. Still hope to get a nice finished Finlay though, especially a black and white piece tha shows off his line work and stippling technique.

My own example is from just a few months later and I love it dearly, but honestly, Foster was pretty great every single year of the strip. As others have mentioned, the contrast of the humor in Aleta's ski accident and the hushed menace of the bear lurking in the thicket is really top notch and shows how it was not just the art, but also the writing and pacing that made this strip such a classic of the form. Hope I will have the chance to see it in person some day.

You're on a roll with this daily Micah! Two classic Raymond gals, moody shadows and great decisions on dark, light and mixed panels to keep the eye moving.

Great example Micah! 1940 was a great year for Terry strips. Love the shadows in that 3rd panel and the way he uses the parachute and its shadow in the first panel frames the characters.

Awesome Kieth piece! Love the design on this one, and great choice on the framing selection.

The framing was all Thom Trainor. He had a great eye for framing in particular. I bought this from him a few years before he passed. Man I miss that guy.

Glad I jumped on this train myself. Simmonds really seems to be coming into his own right now. I spoke to him for quite a while at the show and his talent is undeniable as this and other things he did at the show or were in his portfolio show so well.

Great get-not as epic as the piece I got from you of course, but that was too high a bar!!

I like this one a ton. The direct look at the characters seems organic rather than forced as happens often when artists want to show characters face forward but the action would imply otherwise.

I just got the alternate version of this that wasnt used. Its super interesting to see the differences in the final piece here. in the one I have, the panel with the cat is replaced by a panel with a man on his back with the lifted open hand that appears in final version in the second panel with the alley. That alley panel has no hand in the unused version. Tim  also changed the girl on the stairwell and made the girl in the lower panel a blonde rather than a brunette. The other panels really have only subtle differences in the inking rather than changing the compositions or characters

I've heard you tell the tale on Felix before and (if i remember right) I love the idea that you opted for this instead of something more "typical" as a gift. And moreover you hung it in your college dorm room!

Pure love.

I framed it immediately(again, my parents paid for that) and though I have reframed it, otherwise it has hung everywhere I've lived for now close to 50 years. Definitely a keeper! 😜

I love these PS art pieces by Eisner. I had heard that most had been destroyed by the army, but have seen several come onto the market in the past two or three years, almost all from Europe. His double entendre's with sexy girls used for lessons about machine maintenance are an interesting time capsule
