VERY STRIKING and appealing coloring and strong modeling - and I like that vague, Kirby-esque thing in the background! Guess I haven't seen enough of Canete's work, because this looks like nothing I've seen of his before!
You know - I really like this piece, not only for its sterling technique, but because of ALL the countless 'Batman on Gargoyle' pieces that have been done, (and many are Very Fine!), this is the ONLY one I've seen in which the gargoyle is customarily grotesque & ominous, but Batman appears - at rest, contemplative, possibly even contented! That difference really makes this piece notable and kind of a breath of fresh air! Kudos to you for the nice acquistion!
You know - I've never been a big fan of Hughes, because well as he draws, big toothy smiles on bigger-breasted women don't interest me all that much. But THIS piece shows Great design, Great contrast, and Great detailing, as well as his figural drawing skill. Best I've ever seen by him, and a powerful cover. Congratulations!
This may be the BEST piece ever in which both Batman and Gargoyles figure, but Bats is NOT standing/crouching on them!

The Buscema/Alcala run on SSoC was surely among the best penciller/inker pairings EVER; maybe THE best one, in how it showcased 2 artists' different stengths. Buscema's strong storytelling underlaying Alcala's fine Franklin Booth-ian rendering often raised the art into the neighborhood of Classic IIlustration Art. Alcala's solo work often had the same elaborate inking, but the compositional power & fluidity wasn't there.

I've always liked the use of 'wash' in b&w drawings- it adds the extra modeling, weight & volume, and in a way, tonality that acts as a single 'color'. This is a great use of the medium - it would be strong in straight pen & ink - it's even stronger and richer with wash. Wish we saw more like this - or Duncan Fegredo's excellent wash & ink work!
For those that didn't grow up w/ them- The first year or so of Warren Mags CREEPY and EERIE may have been the best EVER showcase for classic artists experimenting (and succeeding!) with WASH - Ditko, Colan, Torres, Williamson, Grandinetti, Frazetta! and others...
Aside from greatly admiring Risso's work, this page was a huge surprise to me, (not having seen the story),and brought a big smile to my face, as my late father (Dick Smith) created that face on Brando, that Eduardo captured so well. It's nice to think that his work lives on, not only for film buffs, but even, a little bit, in Comic Art.

I was immediately attracted to this piece, so unusual in that it's peaceful and contemplative, almost 'domestic' in its feel, which seems particularly appropriate for Dr. Strange, a scholar in his sanctum. Maybe it's due to my aging, that I find this a refreshing change from the usual heroic posturing , sense of threat, or violence of the majority of popular commissions you see. Congratulations on trading for a lovely piece you'll never let go of!

Splendid page from an Unusual & Powerful story. I'm a big admirer of Peter's work, and rank him high in the group of artists I call 'The Black Spotters'. Met him briefly long ago at a convention, before I knew his work, and bought a fine 'DEMON' pg. Have never seen his major Danish works, but hope to someday... !
Interestingly, of all the superb (and some not at that level) Sgt. Rock jobs that Heath turned out, THIS one also stuck out to me as one of his very best, and I too was excited when those pages appeared for sale! I just couldn't swing it, but think you made an excellent choice, and will surely never regret it. I let go of the one Heath OAAW pg. I had awhile back, because while it had 1 great panel, it wasn't top-notch. THIS page is top-notch! Congratulations!
Beautiful piece - both he and Rudy Nebres have inking technique that often approaches a sublime, semi-classical look. Just lovely.
VERY interesting piece! I'm not familiar w/ this artist, but will look him up! Technique almost resembles a monoprint....great textures & design! I'm fond of FFF myself.. (have 1 splash by Romita Jr.) - must view your other versions!
Terrific page, and certainly Ditko inks. Of all the prodigeous 'Ghost-book' work he did at Charlton, I can remember only one story he didn't ink ....and that one was inked by the very recognizable Pat Boyette! Seems like Ditko only had CDC inkers on Superhero books, like Mastroserio and McLaughlin on Capt. Atom , (I have one of those McLaughlin pgs.), plus1 unpublished issue than John Byne inked! And 1 issue of Jungle Jim with Wood inks.
Anyway, Congratulations on a great acquisition!

Unique & intriguing. Though highly detailed, manages to have a primitive or naive sort of charm. Reminds me of certain 'Outsider' artwork, and of the obsessive detail in the art of Mark Alan Stamaty, Geoff Darrow, and ...what is his name?...the creator of 'Cursed Pirate Girl'. Would like to see more of this artist! Must be a stunner at full size...!
