This piece is INCREDIBLE! Can't believe it doesn't have a comment yet. Big congrats on owning it and please let me know if you ever decide to trade or sell!
Excellent page!! Whoever let go of that beauty probably drank a bit too much champagne. Big Congrats!
WOW!! Huge congrats on putting all of these together! This one is a STUNNER and can't wait to see the last one!
Awesome Example!! Huge Congrats!!
Awesome!!! I love Anna's work and this is such a great piece!
Incredible! One of the best pages from an awesome book! Big congrats on picking these up!
Another thanks! To say I was excited when it popped up is all gross understatement. My eyes practically popped out of my skull ha Supposedly there are a few other 6x9 prelims for the cover (including one that matches the final) but they've never surfaced. Maybe Toth held onto them.
Thanks JL! Really appreciate it! There are a lot of art decisions I regret (selling my Mignola cover for instance) but going all-in on this page is not one of them.
For what it's worth, I believe Toth was bi-polar and even harder on himself than anyone else. He unfairly held everyone to his own impossible, hyper-critical standards. Ive noticed so many of his sketch pages with crossed out writing at the top. But it's such a shame that it stopped him from doing writing or comic work later in life and also that he couldn't find value in other artists work.
Thanks for sharing!
Nice one, Glen! I can only imagine how good this looks in person at what I'm assuming is a huge wallpower size!
Thanks Michael! Your Mignola isn't too hard on the eyes either... haha
This is stunning, Rober!!! Congrats on owning this gem and thanks for sharing it on here! Nothing beats Romita Sr. inks!
This ones a stunner! Big congrats!
Wow! This is incredible. Can't believe I haven't seen this before. What an incredible talent he was... Thanks for sharing this on here! Very excited to check out the Wintermen Artist Edition!
Haha he's a beefy boy! Yeah, I really love the balance between cartoon shape language and realism in the toning. It's not traditional comic stuff but it's so great! It's also very hard to capture wash tones and watercolor in a scan. It really pops in person.
I've long admired this piece since you first posted it and just am returning to admire it again. Can I ask how big it is? I know Toth often worked smaller (6X9, 8.5 X11, 9X12 etc.)
Thanks Steve! It was my top choice for those exact reasons. There are so many great DWJ pages in Beta Ray and Dead Earth that are beautiful emotional moments but since it was going to be my first (and maybe only) DWJ page, I was deadset on nabbing something with action and speedlines that DWJ is known for and this page delivered in spades. Also, for a second I read BRB as be right back and it kind of still works (him getting slammed and sliding away across the ground) haha
Truly beautiful! A lot of the time I like these Mignola monster pieces better than Hellboy stuff. His love for them always comes through. Thanks for sharing it!
Used to own this and still regret letting it go. However, the sale paid for my wife's engagement ring so I can't really complain. Glad to see its in a good home amongst some pretty incredible stuff! If you ever decide to part with it then please do let me know first. Cheers!
So damn good!!! Love the raw power of this image.
Huge congrats on nabbing this one! I never understood the character Fing Fang Foom until I saw Daniel's take in this issue. He makes him seem so powerful and menacing and this page is a huge part of that!
This page is INCREDIBLE!!! I think one of my favorites by Pope I've ever seen. Please do let me know if you ever decide to sell :) Either way, thanks for sharing it on here!
Wow! What a beautiful example of all the flair that is Blair!
This was also one of my top choices from issue 1. A really heartbreaking emotional moment that definitely stood out. More than that, its the emotional stakes and heart of the series! Congrats on snagging such an awesome page from the series and for sharing it on here!
Sold this one to Mike and immediately kind of regretted it. It looks beautiful in person and am glad it went to a good home! Congrats on snagging it!
Thanks Marcus! I wrote a whole long description about how this moment in the comic really stood out to me as heartbreaking, cinematic and beautiful but the post didn't work and I lost what I wrote and didn't want to rewrite it again ha But yeah, the storytelling is beautiful and so emotional. Feel very lucky that this page was still available!
Congrats on a truly great page! I especially love the doodles on the back. You can see hints of the later Toth in there and how his work evolved. A really cool look into his style and process!
Hey Dan! How you been, man? Love these Frank Miller pages! So nice!
Congrats on a great page!! Now if only I could find the dog tail or Wanda.... haha
Thanks Marcus! Yeah, my favorite period of Toth's work is after his last stint at Hanna Barbera when his animation work influenced his comic art the most. The simplicity and economy of his stuff in the early 80's onwards is just beautiful. Its just too bad that he didn't do more narrative work in that period.
Wow this is BEAUTIFUL!!! Very strange to see the classic Raymond style perfectly captured but still clearly in Bernet's hand too. Talk about a match made in heaven! Huge congrats on this one!
WOW!! Just stumbled on your gallery through the feature Spawn page and came across the amazing page and even better story! That is just so damn cool! Thanks for sharing!
Didn't appreciate this page properly when I read the issue but was super impressed with it when you posted the scan. Congrats on a great snag, as well!
Thanks! Yeah its always tricky to decide on the spot. I usually find that if you try to guess how much something will cost it always ends up being about double whatever you guessed. As was the case with pg29 which is also the one I wanted (same as everyone else I'm sure haha) but this one was close and less than half the price so I'm very happy that I got it!
Thanks Kent! I was initially deadset on the page before this wheres hes shoving monters into his mouth but I wasn't prepared for the price tag that went with it. Always hard to make the call in a rush. Regardless I'm still stoked on this one!
Was just admiring this model sheet in the Genius Animated book. Such great drawings! Congrats on a fantastic pickup!

Thanks Keith! I totally agree and really appreciate the kind words!
Thanks Aaron! The lumpy boy actually doesn't bug me at all. If you take a look at the rest of his annotated notes on the story, this page is the one where he's the least critical of all. The fact he seems actually happy with most of the shots just speaks to how great it is and makes me feel even luckier to own it!
Thanks Matt! Took me a couple years to convince the original owner to sell. It's always been my favorite Toth story and I still can't believe I own a page from it.
Wow! Can't believe I never saw this before. Simply incredible! Can only imagine how stunning this is in person. Congrats!
Such a beautiful strip and one of my favorite Scorchys! Congrats on owning this amazing example!
