The owner of the actual original painting is an old acquaintance of mine, so this is a real treat to see. What exquisite linework! Just beautiful, thanks for sharing this!

Magnificent. An image worthy of the Italian Renaissance. BWS is truly a man out of time. You've got impeccable taste, Rob. Thanks for sharing this.

This is amazing! Congrats on an amazing aquisition! Superb in every aspect. Great linework. Strongly reminiscent and influence by The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood. Fits with their work.

Is this the same prelim that was published in The Studio? I love the finished painting, but might like this prelim, with it's nigh-perfect drawing, even more. The other commenter was right -- it's certainly a work on par with the greats of the Italian Renaissance, or the English Pre-Raphaelites and NeoClassicists

I suddendly found myself with tears welling up in my eyes and short breath... you own art that would take the ASM121 cover off my hands.

That's an amazing piece- it's easy to see Alphonse Mucha and Art Nouveau in Barry's work as well as the other oft-mentioned styles his work is mentioned with. Here, Barry executes with the best of all worlds. Awesome piece, and great collection!

This might get me flogged, but I think the drawing surpasses the painted version. Smith's rendering skills in line exceeded his abilities with oils at this stage (in my view). This is a real standard of beautiful draftsmanship.... thanks for sharing this tremendous work!

I have an Extachrome copy of the oil painting that is signed and numbered by BWS. I believe there were only 10 of these made. However, I have to say that the penciled version takes my breath away. I don't have any originals of BWS works but I have many of his GBP prints and portfolios (some signed and numbered) and still can't get enough of his work. Thanks so much for sharing your collection.
