DescriptionCommissioned piece.Sumi ink, Sakura Micron pens, Ebony charcoal stick, Pentel white pens, pencil and white acrylic on paper 19" X 24" Paul Pope at his best! This is his very first Batman commission and think he killed this one. His classic Batman Year 100 figure and a very great take on Harley. This would make an awesome cover. A Grail piece for sure! I can't thank Paul enough for taking time to do it. Here is what Paul had to say about the piece and the bottom panel. "Ok --first of all, I went way overboard with this one. Couldn't help myself. You never know how they'll turn out before it starts, I got into it and the piece kept expanding outward, from a very basic pin-up type pose. Never tried anything quite like that before. I was thinking of Robert McGuiness and Bob Peak, two artists Bill Sienkewicz and I talk about a lot when we get together or rap on the phone. He and I were talking right before I started. I was also thinking of the work James Bama did in the late 60's. He did some slightly lurid pulp paperbacks with cute if slightly naughty girls. That was the idea. I thought some sort of split panel idea would have a nice retro vibe. I think it turned out nicely overall. A chance to play with new tools and mixed media." "It's the only Batman commission I've done, and the only "pro" drawing of him I've done since 2006, except for the deluxe HC artwork (not counting DK3)." Beautiful. Paul Pope is "the Rock Star" of the comic world. This is an amazing piece. I am not aware of Paul doing other commissions so this is truly a unique piece. I am still trying to figure out the left lower panel:)
