DescriptionAnother "want" was scratched off the list when the combination of right time, right subject matter, right craft, and right price were staring me in the face while setting up for Preview Night at CCI. I've been searching for a McGinnis for at least the last five years after I failed to buy my favorite McGinnis painting, "Chrysalis" when Mitch sold it at CCI around 2005. "Chrysalis" was the first McGinnis painting that I saw in person and the beauty and craft in that painting turned me into a McGinnis fan forever. I didn't buy it then was because I wasn't comfortable with a nude -- a decision that I regret to this day. I don't know if I will ever get over not buying that particular painting. Nonetheless, when I saw this gouache painting during preview night and held it in my hands for a few seconds, I knew that I wanted it because it immediatley "felt" right for me. Thanks go to Albert Moy for helping me out with this. It may not be my "ultimate" or the "perfect" McGinnis, but this certainly makes me more than happy. From the September 20, 1960 issue of Saturday Evening Post. "The Girl On The Tower." Gouache on board. 16 x 9 inches.Social/Sharing |

This is a stunner you may have missed out on the one you always wanted but this has to come pretty close to perfection, glad you got it.

BTW, I looked up "Chrysalis". While that IS a stunner...I can't say I'd necessarily choose that over this. If nothing else, this one can be hung in the home with no fear of recrimination from significant others!

Beautiful work, Richard. I didn't know that McGinnis used gouache. Such a difficult medium to work with, and he certainly handled it beautifully. Congrats!
