DescriptionSome years back MC Wyman was posting cover commission requests on eBay to bid on. So, I decided to bid at one point and was able to get this ASM/DD mashup, and pretty affordably!I’ve always had ASM 121 and DD 181 in my head as connected books – Marvel’s 2 street level NYC based heroes experiencing the deaths of their respective loves at the hands of their arch villains. Plus, there was a suspense factor to both covers (who will die?!), both cover backgrounds were yellow, both issue numbers ended in the number “1”…I don’t know. Though they were published 9 years apart I always had them tied. Subsequently, I had this idea for a commission for a while, to see the cover of the issue after Gwen’s death (ASM 122) but with the DD characters. I decided this is what I’d have done if I won the auction…I did, so here it is! Just a fun take on a classic John Romita cover – I’ve included an image for reference. In the word balloons I specifically asked Wyman to replace “Wall-Crawler” with “Hornhead” - the other changes were pretty straightforward. MC added the target symbol in the “Last Stand” caption on his own accord which is a nice touch. The characters are in the exact poses of their counterparts from the real cover, with Bullseye of course jumping as he doesn’t have a glider and throwing Elektra’s sais as opposed to pumpkin bombs. I think drawing female faces is one of Wyman’s strong suits and that’s the case here with Elektra. One blip was I wanted MC to use issue 182 up top, not 122, but I guess I can forgive that, MC ;) I like looking at this from time to time as it really is a physical representation of my thoughts on these 2 key books in the MU’s history. Awesome twist on a great cover! Perfect mashup of a historic trio!

I think so, Ryan! To me, DD/Elektra/Bullseye will always be that triangle like Spidey/Gwen/GG, though storylines in later years might’ve changed that up a bit. Thanks for the comments, guys!

Wow, this is really a terrific re-imagining of the ASM 122 cover. Great idea! MC Wyman is one of the very best cover recreators out there, and he put some special magic into this one.

Awesome cover re-creation! Can't go wrong with Bullseye. I hope to get one someday with an idea I have in my head...
