DescriptionAnother commission post from the Inky Knuckles art crew - here, Dylan Burnett's take on Mephistopheles! With most commissions I see, at least in part, what the artist did before getting it in the mail. But not this one - first time seeing anything was opening up the package, and liked what I saw right away. Mephisto, revelling with that smile, in his realm, in his element, amongst the poor fallen souls. Or a cadre of henchmen? Maybe both. And also maybe making a toast with that goblet :) So much ink on the page, adding literal "dark" to the dark imagery. Also some grey tones, and there's lots of subtle details, like how the background black above Mephisto's cape is done in brush/marker, vs the hatch-y lines done in pen below the cape. Overall, some sinisterly good stuff all around! Thanks for looking! Social/Sharing |

Super interesting take on the character. I like what's going on in the top portion of the drawing, and really love what's going on in the bottom portion. But the furry thing in the middle is probably not my favorite. Agree with you on the dark imagery. Really glad he only left minimal white areas. Cool piece.

The furry thing...I actually kinda dig it. Got that Conan or He-Man kinda look which adds a "sword and sorcery" element. But we agree on the rest, including the minimal white space - definitely the right way to go! Thanks, Eric, and all, for the comments!

Mephisto is soooo in his element here, as evidenced by his joyfully sinister grin. Beautiful piece!!

Night was black, was no use holding back
'Cause I just had to see, was someone watching me?
In the mist, dark figures move and twist
Was all this for real or just some kind of Hell?
Six six six, the number of the beast
Hell and fire was spawned to be released!

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of death and capes
I've been around with the horns and ears
Stole Billigan's lost soul and faith
And I was 'round with sacrifice
Had this moment of Burnett's take
Made damn sure the pallete
Washed inks had depth and weight
Pleased to meet you
Hatch and cross to fame
But this puzzling clue
Is just the rapture of my game

Digging that, man! A perfect tune for this image to get the Wai of the Lyric Warrior treatment! Thanks!

This is awesome, K. My very first thought when I saw it was, "Oh, man - is Mephisto drinking out of a -heart-....?" Brrrr! Really great composition and tone, with Mephisto sporting a cool "wassup?" attitude (complete with finger gun) showing everything is positively hunky dory in his world. All cool, baby! :) My favorite things here are the legion of the damned at his feet (most especially the one in the bottom left corner - that lolling eyeball is absolutely superb), and I like how Dylan used the white of the page to separate Mephisto and his "guests". Great commissions thus far, K! Can't wait to see the rest!

"It's good to be king...muahahaha!" Standing on his throne of bones, that's a cool Mephisto. You have to have all that ink, too, for a prince of darkness. The goblet is a great touch. Nice hellish vintage! Great commission, Kahlil, as you do.

Fantastic! The thumbnail lead me to believe he was using screen tones, but I love how uniform the ink wash is here. Very cool addition, man!

Burnett has created a truly demonic Mephisto here, one that is the stuff of nightmares. Very well done!
