Description

The 'Prison World' storyline from the Guice Era of MICRONAUTS is kindly-remembered by a lot of Micros comics fans. Art from those issues can be a little hard to find, especially from issue #53.

This particular cover is notable for the amount of work that editorial was forced to do on it (possibly at the request of Mantlo, but who knows?)

Mari's posture is different from how it appeared on the final cover, a leather shackle has been added to her waist, and that electrocution apparatus has been added to her head. So, the original art wasn't getting the point across enough, I guess. Still reads as 'The Chair' to me.

The changes detailed above would have been added by the Marvel Bullpen to a 'stat copy' of the art, long since discarded.

When I was going into a comic shop looking for Doctor Who stuff, this cover stood out to me and I found it intriguing. I ended up buying it and whatever other issues they had on the rack along with a bunch of other comic titles. Thus my modern comic origin story.
