Q&A with Andrew Allen

Which piece in your gallery is your favorite and why?

The collected MICRONAUTS #11, my single favorite comic book from my childhood, all together!

Please tell us a little about yourself.

Collector of MICRONAUTS, BATTLESAR GALACTICA, ROM, GRIMJACK, STAR BLAZERS...

How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start?

I'm approaching my 10-year anniversary of OA collecting. Moved from collecting 'sketch cards' to full-sized OA.

How do you display/store your collection at home?

Itoya 14x19 portfolios, mostly. I have a few reproductions of a few select pieces framed.

What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions?

1) One particular Image Comics page: Micronauts #11 page 6 2) One particular Golden page: Micronauts #9 page 1 3) Michael Golden covers for Micronauts #4 and Micronauts #12 4) Broderick/ Guice Covers, splashes and pages from Micronauts 5) Pages and the cover from Rom: Spaceknight Annual #2

Micronauts (MARVEL) Issue 11 COVER Michael Golden
For the first time in over 35 years, MICRONAUTS #11 is truly COMPLETE.

Observant viewers will note that the central pair of characters is a paste-up. No need to be worried, close examination has demonstrated that it is indeed artwork and not a stat; inkstrokes are apparent, x-acto knife seems to have been used rather than scissors, and the pasted paper is much thicker, and has a different sheen, than statpaper.

So, it seems likely to me that an earlier version of the cover must have been rejected, and the pivotal scrum was salvaged by Golden to be the centerpiece of this published version.

If this post brings new viewers to my gallery, hello! Please feel invited to look around, and check out my 'Wanted' gallery and my illustrated CAF Want List - there's plenty of stuff I'm looking for, and I'm generous to those who help me out!
